My Wild Week Of Workouts!

Well, I did a thing.  Go Fitness Niagara just started another round of the 6 Week Challenge and the energy that brings in is always so invigorating, so I decided to follow along too!

I threw on this Depeche Mode 101 shirt from grade 8 that I've had in my closet since it got too small,
and it's kind of loose!   I now wear it to workout!

I started this round of the challenge by getting back to the nearly 100% clean eating ( I usually strive for an 80/20 split) and decided to try adding a little cardio.   Guys...I kinda jogged.  JOGGED.  With my bad knees it's not something I can do for long, but I've been using it for interval type cardio.  Walk-Jog-Walk-Incline-repeat.  And sweating...oh boy do I sweat.  And sing... loudly and badly when I have those headphones in.

Because I don't really have any decent before and afters from the beginning of my fitness journey, I grew a pair and asked my trainer to take some 'this is where I'm at now' photos.  I was shocked at the difference in my mid-section.  I mean, I knew my clothes were getting big but I'm in this for the long haul so I wasn't really tracking any of my stats.  I knew my core was getting stronger by things I'm able to do that I wasn't before and seeing these kind of made me wonder, what else can I do?

So for week 2 of the challenge I decided to push myself and try a couple of new things.  1st was adding more protein by way of Diesel Unflavoured Protein Powder smoothies, and eating more meat and vegetable based meals (cutting out even the brown rice).  I've always had issues hitting my protein goals but I've had no problem this week with that.  Here are two of my current faves:

Matcha Smoothie
1 Scoop Diesel Unflavoured
1 Cup Cashew Milk
1/2 Cup Coconut Milk
1/4 tsp Matcha Powder
1/2 tsp maple syrup
1 Cup fresh spinach

Banana Bread Smoothie
I Scoop Diesel Unflavoured
1 Cup Cashew Milk

dash of nutmeg

The next step was finding a way to step up my workouts.  Some of the challengers had already started 'doing doubles' ( 2 classes in a row, or in the same day) and I thought, well I haven't done that in a while... what if I do that for a whole week?  So I did doubles Mon-Thurs and bonus Triple Core classes on Friday because I was so stoked I could finally do a Dragon Flag (it needs work to get out a bit further...but I mean... I'm impressed with myself, from barely doing crunches to this in a year!)  So that was 11 workouts (plus a little jaunt on the treadmill Tuesday) in 5 days!

In order to keep up these workouts through the week my trainer Mike let me try some of his pre-workout, (I was stressed and dragging ass that day).  It worked great, I was focused and ready to rock.  Knowing I was really going to be pushing myself, I invested in some (Preset Peach Mango), and admittedly kinda like the tingly face feeling when it kicks in!   It really is great for those days you just don't wanna go.  (He warned me of it's overuse etc, like a responsible Fitness Professional.)

I really am lucky to have found the fit community here at GFN, everyone is supportive, knowledgeable and motivating.  All the trainers are great,  but Mike has been especially so, providing me with modifications, encouragement when I need it, sometimes reminding me to take it easy and always pushing me to try something new.  His energy is truly contagious and I can't wait to see what I'll try next!

I am thinking about doing a fun run near the end of the summer, and am starting to research whats involved in getting my excess skin removed, as I'm rocketing closer to my goal every day.  It feels so good to have all this energy!  But... this was me Saturday rest day...

I really really really cannot recommend enough taking your own health seriously and investing in yourself.  It feels great and really pays off! Go out and find your #fitfam! ~ Kelly
