Hair Care | Matrix & Shu Uemura Review

Press Samples

Ever since I can remember, I have been colouring my hair, every colour of the rainbow to be exact. Up until about 2 months ago, my hair was pink and as you can imagine, that came with a lot of damage! It finally dawned on me that it was time to charge of my urge to continue down the path of colourful hair, and ultimately say no to lighteners and bleach to regain the strength and shine my hair once had. In order to accomplish this dream of healthy hair, it was time to put down the flat iron and pick up some great products, some Matrix and Shu Uemura products to be exact. My main concern's are dryness and repair, today's blog will be all about the progress I've made using my new Matrix Re-Bond Shampoo, Pre-Conditioner, Conditioner as well as Shu Uemura's Ultra Remedy Serum and Hydro-Nourishing Double Serum. My before's and after's will be at the end of this blog, and let me tell you, they're unbelievable!

Matrix & Shu Uemura Hair Care | My 5 Step Process
Matrix & Shu Uemura Hair Care | My 5 Step Process

For the past two weeks I have been keeping up with a 5 step process every time my hair has been washed, which is about 3 times per week. The first step is to shampoo, for that I have been using the Matrix Total Results Re-Bond Shampoo, which is for extreme repair. This shampoo contains citric acid which is a deep cleaner, it will remove any build-up including chlorine's, metals and impurities that have gathered on the scalp. I've found from previous years of using drug store shampoo's that they almost leave a waxy film on the hair, this shampoo will remove all of that. During my first use, I noticed that it lathered very nicely and I didn't feel the need to use handful of shampoo like I have with other shampoo's. The formula is clear and smells clean and fresh! The Re-Bond shampoo comes with 300 ml of product and will last a good amount of time seeing as I only needed about a quarter sized amount to completely cover my hair.
Matrix Re-Bond Pre-Conditioner

The second step to this process is to use the Matrix Re-Bond Pre-Conditioner after rinsing the shampoo, the formula contains Maleic Acid which penetrates deep into the hair's fiber to strengthen any damaged or weak bonds. The Pre-Conditioner comes with 200 ml of product and I used about a quarter sized amount to completely cover all hair. I left this product on for about 5 minutes, the scent almost smells like a lotion, there are no extra fragrances added. It has the consistency of a conditioner and is white in colour. After letting this soak for about 4 minutes I moved onto step 3.

Step 3 is always my favourite, I tend to go a little overboard with the conditioner and let it sit as long as possible. The conditioner I used is the Matrix Re-Bond Conditioner, which is formulated with another acid called Taurine which locks in all of those nutrients we just packed on the hair strands with step 1 and 2. For this step I needed only about a dime size amount to completely lather all hair on top of the Pre-Conditioner, normally I would slap on a handful and still not feel satisfied. Maybe for once in my life I will run out of shampoo before the conditioner! The scent is similar to step 2, and has a thick white consistency. I left both step 2 and step 3 in all together for an additional 7-10 minutes then rinsed. Immediately out of the shower I noticed a difference, my hair felt light. Almost as if there was no residue left behind, it also felt extremely hydrated.
Shu Uemura Extreme Restoration Duo-Serum

Step 4 was to apply my Shu Uemura Extreme Restoration Duo- Serum which is some serious stuff! The pump is a duo-pump, so each time you pump, you get two different formulas that come out of separate chambers. This serum contains Ceramide technology and a serum infused with lotus. The Japanese Lotus is well known for being able to not only survive but also bloom in the most hostile environments, the Lotus flower also contains moisturizing properties. The entire Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Ultimate Remedy line contains high levels of Ceramide's which reinforce the hair's fiber and maintain flexibility resulting in strong, healthy hair. I wanted to focus this mostly on my end's, because that's where the help was needed most and to do that I only used one pump.
Shu Uemura Urban Moisture Double Serum

The final step in my new regimen is the Shu Uemura Urban Moisture Double Serum, the key ingredients in this serum are the Moringa Extract which hydrates and purifies and is also known as the “miracle tree”. It is highly concentrated in nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants this extract intensely hydrates deep within strands and Red Micro-Algae Extract which heals and protects. This is the ultimate combination to nourish and shield the hair's surface. The bottle says you must shake to activate, and then apply to damp or dry hair, it took me about 4 pumps to lightly cover all hair. At first my hair felt weird, kind of greasy actually. About 10 minutes after applying, I noticed that feeling was completely gone, it's almost as though my hair completely soaked in all of the product. After all of these steps, my hair was starting to feel smooth again.

The progress I've made with my hair in the past two week's has been phenomenal, it has gone from completely lifeless and dry to healthy and shiny. These products are loaded with high-quality ingredients that help completely transform the hairs fibers. Like I said, I had bleached hair for many years, so my hair was very unhealthy. In the photo's below, my hair has been professionally coloured and trimmed to try and cover up the pink (4 week's prior to using these products). About one week into this review I had a small trim which is why my lengths look different. There have been absolutely no touch-up's to these photo's and I tried my best to take them in very similar lighting. In the after photo, my hair look's darker, I believe this is a result of getting rid of some dead ends during my trim. All in all, I couldn't be more happy with the way these product's have performed, I am just blown away by how amazing my hair is starting to look! The changes are obvious, my hair is shiney, more full of life and overall just looks more healthy. I can only imagine how my hair will feel after 6 week's of this 5 step process. The Matrix and Shu Uemura goodies I've shown you today have become my new permanent  hair care routine, these are absolutely a must-have!
