Stila | Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner | Review, Swatches & Try-On

Press Samples

The first time I tried a Stila Eye Liner was not necessarily on purpose, it just so happened to come in a palette that I purchased. Ever since then, I have become a huge fan of Stila's Liner's, they never disappoint! We all know and love their Glitter and Glow Liquid Liner's, Highlighter's and Lippies, but have you tried their Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner? I was overjoyed to see that Stila sent me two different shades of a liner that I know and love to review for you, below I'll be showing you some swatches, a look and my thoughts on the formula.

When I was first introduced to makeup, I used to think that eyeliner's were all the same, you pick your colour and that was that. Obviously that is most definitely not the case, for me, there are so many factors that make up a good eyeliner. The formula and your skin type are two of the most important points for me, with oily skin, products can glide or smudge much easier and the formula of a product will have an effect on how creamy, pigmented and long-wearing the liner is. I personally go for a creamy, rich in colour and long wearing pencil. Stila's Smudge Stick Liner is amazing and cater's to my needs and want's perfectly.

Stila carries 13 gorgeous shades of this liner, all come beautifully packaged in their classic gold-foiled cartons. Each pencil is retractable and comes with .28 grams of product, which is standard in my opinion. The two shades I have to show you today are "Vivid Sapphire" and "Vivid Labradorite", the shade names were inspired by beautiful stones.

The tip of the Stila's Liner is about a medium size, it's not ultra-fine but not jumbo either. I always love doing a slightly smudged and bond liner look with these liner's, they do such a great job! The formula allows about a 30 second window to do some smudging then they become completely waterproof, once dried, they aren't going anywhere. I have found these eyeliner's to be extremely long-wearing, I don't think I have ever had any bleeding or un-wanted smudging throughout my day. These are also exceptional if you like to add liner to your waterline, they aren't sharp and wont scratch you, they also don't run into the inner corner of your eye.

I wanted to show you some swatches in more natural lighting, they seemed to turn out more true-to-colour that way. Vivid Labradorite is a grey-toned brown and Vivid Sapphire is a gorgeous deep blue, both shades would go very well with an everyday smokey look. Each swatch was one single swipe, as you can see they are very rich in pigment and creamy, I also lightly smudged out another swatch to show you how beautifully they can blend. On the packaging, they are said to be waterproof and that claim is spot on. To wash the liners off without scrubbing, I simply used a makeup wipe that contained oil, any remover that contained oil would work just as good though.

I decided to use Stila's "Vivid Sapphire" Smudge Stick Liner with this copper look, application was very easy. Since this was just an everyday eye, I wanted a slightly smudged-out line and to do that I simply glided the pencil ever so lightly towards the end of my line and used a thin brush in a flicking motion, which then gave me that soft appearance. Either of the two shades I showed you today would actually pair quite nicely with the shadows I used, but I was feeling a slight pop of colour with "Vivid Sapphire".

Overall, I would highly recommend this liner, for many uses actually! Not only is it great for cat eye's,  bold liner look's and in your waterline but you could also use it as a base for the perfect sultry smokey eye. Stila's Smudge Stick Waterproof Liner comes in 13 stunning shades and is very low maintenance throughout the day, like I said, not once have I ever had to touch-up!

 I hope you've enjoyed today's blog,
