Tarte Be A Mermaid & Make Waves Eyeshadow Palette | Review Time!

Hey everyone! I put the Tarte Be A Mermaid & Make Waves palette to the test this week, and it really surprised me! You'll want to read this review before you buy this eyeshadow palette.

At first glance I was a bit worried that this palette was only shimmer shades, but there are three matte shadows that you can use as transition shades. The shadows swatched really well and I was surprised to see that there were so many warm shades in this palette. I realize I arranged the swatches on my arm in a weird way, for that I apologize, but I made sure the names were matched up so you can compare them to the palette.

The shimmer shadows were very pigmented when applied with a wet brush and the matte shades were also pigmented on the eyes. You will get some fallout with these shades, but if you do your eye makeup before foundation you shouldn't have any problems.
The matte shadows could get a little patchy if you use a heavy hand, so I would recommend going in a few times to build up to the colour you're looking for. Blending takes a a little more time than I expected, but you can definitely get a blended look if you put some time into it.

I had to reach for other palettes to complete a look, but I do like how the Tarte palette looked on my eyes at first. However, these shadows crease like no other palette I've used before! You can see the pictures bellow, but that was only five or six hours after applying it. I noticed some very slight creasing right after applying the shadow Nude Beach on my lid, which wasn't a great sign, but I didn't think that it would crease as much as it did. I have hooded eyelids, so that might have contributed to the creasing you see bellow. If you don't have hooded eyelids you might not experience creasing like that at all, but I'm not certain about that.

To be honest with you, I'm a little underwhelmed by the Tarte Be A Mermaid & Make Waves palette. I was hoping to make some nice looks from it, but they wouldn't last long enough for me to feel comfortable leaving the house. The packaging was amazing, but the shadows didn't perform the way I was expecting them to considering the quality of other Tarte palettes.
Would I recommend buying this palette for the eyeshadow? No. But, if you're a collector of makeup and love mermaids and Tarte I would recommend it.
I'll see you next time! ~Ariel
